Knight Digital Media Center at the University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Journalism is seeking a digital media trainer experienced in online journalism who can teach journalists and local news bloggers how to create innovative multimedia or interactive stories and other content.
The Digital Media Trainer will work in collaboration with the staff of the UC Berkeley Knight Digital Media Center and the Graduate School of Journalism to help organize and teach training workshops and create and maintain online tutorials and other materials for the workshops. The trainer also will assist with School of Journalism courses that provide instruction on the same topics covered in the training workshops.
Candidates should be proficient in one of two areas:
-Use of digital video cameras, digital audio recorders and digital photo cameras and software applications such as Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Flash, Soundslides and audio editing programs.
-Interactive databases and data visualizations, mapping technologies and mash-ups, Flash, ActionScript, HTML/CSS and web and digital design principles.
A commitment to learning new technologies and their application to journalism and online publishing is an essential part of the job. Proficiency in effective use of social media is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Develop in-house and off-site training programs; prepare training materials; develop course and online tutorial content;
Conduct workshop training for professional journalists and community news bloggers and co-teach School of Journalism classes on digital technologies and techniques.
Seek out and recruit experts, and identify emerging trends in digital media to be used in training sessions and classes;
Assist in the expansion of the Knight Digital Media Center website, especially development of online tutorials, web-based tools and social media to serve program alumni and the journalism community in general.
Experience:
Master’s degree and two years of professional journalism or digital media experience; or Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience.
Preferred Skills
Teaching experience, or experience conducting presentations or training.
