Description:
The Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times needs an energetic reporter who thrives on beating the competition, racking up a ton of bylines in print and online while covering whatever comes his or her way during the course of the evening. This is a weekday night shift, usually from 2-11 p.m. A truly ambitious person, this reporter also wants to work on multimedia skills and throw in the occasional project here and there. This reporter would love to beat TV reporters for the sport of it. A background covering cops would be a huge plus. The reporter should expect to become proficient in using all of the visual and multimedia storytelling tools available at the Caller-Times (circulation 70,000 Sunday, 50,000 daily). Corpus Christi sits on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, about three hours southwest of Houston and two hours south of San Antonio. The tropical climate, beach, diverse population and growing area make Corpus Christi a dynamic area for telling great stories. The paper consistently is among the top award winners in the region for a mid-sized daily, including the Texas APME's best newspaper and best Web site in the 30,000-124,999 circulation category for five of the past six years. Be ready to work hard and grow professionally. We're going to fill this spot quickly. Send or e-mail resume, cover letter, work samples and references (electronic correspondence preferred initially) to:
Experience:
Applicants must have at least two years of daily newspaper experience or internships at daily newspapers combined. Spanish fluency is a plus but not mandatory. The Caller-Times, owned by Scripps Howard, pays competitive salary (low- to mid-30s, depending on experience) and excellent benefits.
