Description:
As lead writer for the Planet Money blog on NPR.org, this correspondent will focus on current economic and business news and culture topics, utilizing the stories, reporting and journalists of NPR’s Planet Money team, as well as NPR’s other business and economic reporting resources. The correspondent will help drive this high-profile project and be the lead, dedicated writer. The correspondent will demonstrate a strong reporting background in economics and business, exercise seasoned news judgment and be a fast, stylish writer who solicits and edits work from other contributors to the blog and consistently engages the Plant Money audience. This position is based in New York City.

Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in journalism and national affairs. Required: At least six years’ journalistic experience. At least four years’ experience reporting or editing economic and business stories. Excellence in analysis and interpretation. Demonstrated excellence in reporting and writing for the Web and for blogs. Demonstrated ability to write in an informal, conversational style that comports with NPR’s on-air voice. Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of online journalism – reporting, writing, editing, photography, Web publishing tools and social media. Demonstrated familiarity with Planet Money and NPR.org. Ability to aggressively set a coverage and style agenda. Ability to handle multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions. Demonstrated understanding Web 2.0 concepts and blogging best practices. Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure. Incumbent must be able to report breaking stories. Ability and willingness to work varied shifts. Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system. Ability to relocate. In the future, NPR may choose to transfer employees to other geographic locations. Severance provisions of the AFTRA collective bargaining agreement will apply should you choose not to accept a transfer. Preferred: Digital audio editing experience. Broadcast experience.
