Professional/Personal Overview

Shakib Rajaieean, born and raised in Herat, Afghanistan, worked for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan as the senior political and civil affairs assistant from November 2002 to August 2007 in Western Afghanistan. There, he contributed to a peace and political process known as the Bonn Process that laid the foundation for the re-establishment of the democratic institutions in Afghanistan.

Mr. Rajaieean has also worked for two international NGOs, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) and International Assistance Mission in Herat, Afghanistan. He is currently a Fulbright scholar studying international relations and comparative politics at the University of Montana in Missoula. At the university, he worked as a teaching assistant at the Central and Southwestern Asian Studies Program and also served as a consultant on Afghan culture and politics the at Mike and Maureen Mansfield Center.

Mr. Rajaieean is currently the director of Central Asian Programs at the United States of Hope, a non-profit that provides aid to families affected by war, conflict and natural disaster. Since his arrival in the United States, he has taken the opportunity to speak at several events and conferences on a wide range of issues related to Afghanistan with the purpose of enhancing mutual understanding and developing a better knowledge of the situation, culture and issues in Afghanistan.
