Basir Seerat
Professional/Personal Overview
Basir Seerat is a photojournalist with a long personal history of using his chosen craft to fight for hope and peace in his country. In 1998, he lived for some time as a refugee. Mr. Seerat graduated from Kabul University in 2005 with a Fine Arts degree from the Department of Theater and Cinema.
In 2005, he was kidnapped by the Taliban in the Nuristan province while making a documentary film about the lives of women in that region. Mr. Seerat escaped from the Taliban jail after 10 days. He has worked with many filmmakers, especially Samira Makhmal Baf, a noted Iranian director.
For a year and a half, Mr. Seerat has worked as a photojournalist for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), and the Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) as a fashion photographer.
